Borrowed Bounty

Yes, this pumpkin is gynormous. No, I did not grow it. It peeked over to my side of the fence from the neighbor's garden. I considered not telling her about it and keeping it for myself, but being of acute conscience, I decided that wouldn't go well for me. So I told her. This was a hard thing to do because the pumpkins (actually, pumpkin) rooted in my soil looks like this:

And while I admit my neighbor's pumpkin irks me because of its awesomeness in comparison to my pumkin's lameness, I'm trying to just enjoy it. And I'm thinking of all the other good things in my life that I can't take credit for but whose fruits I enjoy anyway, like the fact my parents read to me, and Grandma Jean's solo visits to primary as a little girl, and Ben Franklin's kite and lightning.

The pumpkin also reminds me that when I see people with something I want and don't have (sizable squash, time management skills, obedient children), I have a few options. I can
  1. be jealous
  2. feel inadequate
  3. be happy for them.
I admit I have chosen and will probably continue to choose from all of the above in varying situations. But for now, I'm happy for my neighbor and her pumpkin. I think my mother-in-law has some in her garden she's planning to share.

  1. Beautiful. Seriously, grandma going to Primary by herself has changed so many lives, mine included. I forget what a pioneer she was. Thank you for reminding me.

  3. Who needs sizable squash, time management skills, or obedient children? I'm thinking a clever blog outweighs them all...well, except for the obedient children, and we all know they are mythical creatures. So, I choose to be happy for you and look forward to many delightful entries. :o)
